I was in Wales last week,when I went into a pub I could hear the locals conversing in English, why did they?

revert to Welsh when I appeared. I found it quite unsettling, and somewhat ignorant of the locals. I drank my beer quickly and left them to it. I thought Wales needed tourists, or perhaps I'm wrong.
