Is it the responsibility of my landlord to replace furniture damaged by foundation leak in my apartment?
Two weeks ago I came home from work to find the floor in front of electric theater seating to be wet in my apartment. I moved the chairs away from the wall to find that the entire area under them was soaked. Long story short, there was a crack in the foundation which caused roughly 100 gallons of water to get into my apartment. I tried calling my renter's insurance about being compensated for the chairs (they were 2500 dollars 3 years ago) but they said they would do not cover damage from cracks in the foundation. I contacted my landlord and she said that the complex/and their insurance company would not compensate me anything for the chairs because there was no landlord negligence. Is there anything I can do to get my chairs replaced? Is there anyone who I can contact who would be able to? Is the landlord responsible for these damages or is it my problem? Thanks for your help.
