TMJ problems due to four biscuspid extraction?

Hi I recently saw a dentist, but would like a little more information from a dentist who has experience with TMJ. I have been having a lot of problems with my TMJ recently, I have had headaches, facial pain, ear paint, jaw pain, etc. The dentist that I saw said that my TMJ problems are due to the fact that I had four biscuspid extraction when I was younger to make room for braces. He said that my teeth are not aligned correctly and my jaw joint is in the wrong position. I was hoping that there is a way to fix this. He suggested that I wear a nightguard at night. I was wondering if there is a way to correct the ramifications from the four biscuspid extraction? And what it will entail for my teeth and jaw to properly align? And can my jaw and teeth be corrected after having the four biscuspid extraction? I have read a few answers from tooth975 and would greatly appreciate if he would respond, since he seems very knowledgeable in the field of TMJ problems. Thanks!
