Will I get compensated for a personal ault at work?

a fellow employee got mad at me and hit me with a shovel in the back. I told my foreman and he talked to him which later he told me he was sorry. I came home feeling a little sore but the next day I am hurting good. My foreman embarressed me by asking how I felt in front of another employee. I didn't want folks to ridicule me. as it was, my foreman, joking, asked me if I wanted the business end of a shovel. Even the folks from the other trades were making comments. any suggestions on what I can do?
